I first noticed the ‘Pine Leaf’ abandoned a few feet off the south bank of the North Fraser River.
For a few years there was really nothing very interesting about the old fishing boat as a photo subject, it just sat there day after day moored and quietly floating.
Things changed after a November snowstorm blew through and deposited a heavy blanket of snow on the ‘Pine Leaf’, within a few days the weight of the melting snow sunk the old fishing trawler.
After that the Pine Leaf became a subject of interest for everyone with a camera.
Over time the ‘Pine Leaf’ was slowly consumed by the elements until nothing but the planks on it’s bottom and a few ribs remained not long after it was gone.
I took a great many photos of the ‘Pine Leaf’ over the years as it succumbed to the elements.
This image was captured on a foggy early January morning.
A few years ago this image won 2nd place in New Westminster’s RiverFest: photo competition.
