• A panel in The Ghent Altarpiece, completed by Hubert and Jan van Eyck in 1432 depicts a lamb bleeding from its neck into a cup. The image is symbolic for Jesus sacrificing his life in order to redeem humankind from its sins. The blood of the lamb (i.e. innocence) flows into a chalice, my thoughts are that this sacrifice would require more blood than a chalice can contain. Our sins are so vast that even the oceans would not be enough to contain the flow needed to grant forgiveness.
