• The 'Dedhed' series was initially inspired by the sugar skulls created as a sweet treet during the Mexican celebration of 'El Día de los Muertos' or 'The Day of the Dead' which occur on the 1st of November (All Saints’ Day in remembrance of the children and infants who have died) and the 2nd of November (All Souls’ Day in remembrance of the adults and elders that have died), these days correspond with the Catholic holy days of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Many aspects of the Mexican festival have indigenous origins in an Aztec festival dedicated to the goddess Mictecacihuatl. After the conquest of Mexico, the Spanish superimposed their cultural traditions upon the similar Aztec festival and a synthesis occurred. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. Due to it occurring shortly after Halloween, the "Day of the Dead" is sometimes thought to be a similar holiday, although the two actually have little in common. The dedhed series like "The Day of the Dead" it’s about the celebration of life.
